Screen Time
One thing you can do to entertain a kid is watching a show. If the kid is 1-3 years old I suggest 1 hour and 30 minutes a day. If the kid is 4-5 I say 2 hours a day. Watching TV or any electronic device before age 18 months has lasting negative effects on children’s language development, reading skills, and short term memory. It also contributes to problems with sleep and attention.
I like to watch Curious George with my nephew because it can make you both laugh and it can keep the kids entertained. Curious George is a cartoon show about a man with the yellow hat that has a pet monkey named George. George is really curious and likes to have fun.
Random things to to with kids
Another thing you can do is go on a walk or go to a park. Even better is to go walking to a park. It can help improve mood and generally does wonders for your young adventurer’s health. It also helps to create good habits for an active lifestyle. Plus all that extra activity should help children feel more tired in the evenings, leading to a better night’s sleep.
Other things to do to keep your kid entertained is to color or to play with toys. Coloring helps develop fine motor skills and the drawing precision a child begins to develop over time, coloring is a great way to help children build hand strength. In developing these muscles, you set your child up for improved writing skills and endurance. Playing with toys can contribute to the development of cognitive, motor, psychosocial, emotional, and linguistic skills. It also plays a key role in raising self-confident, creative, and happy children.
