Sean Neuwald, Writer

So, you’ve most likely heard of a game called Call of Duty before, but if you haven’t, it’s a first-person shooter which can be played on Xbox, Playstation, PC, and some games can even be played on the Wii. Now, everyone knows that there’s a campaign, (single player), and a multiplayer, but did you know that in some games there’s actually a zombies gamemode? Yep, that’s right, and it all started in the 5th COD, World at War. Since then there have been 6 zombies games created by Treyarch, the company who makes the fan-favorite Call of Duty Zombies games. These games are called World at War, Black Ops 1, Black Ops 2, Black Ops 3, Black Ops 4, and Cold War. Now, if you ever want to play these games, you have to pick which game to buy, and because each game has its own maps, guns, and characters, it’s a hard decision. Today, I’m going to help you decide which games to buy.

Now first of all, don’t even think about buying Black Ops 4. Every single person in the community can agree that this game is the worst. The guns are bad, the zombies’ AI is bad, the characters are bad, the maps are bad, the perks (abilities that you can buy) are bad, everything is bad. Next is my personal least favorite game out of the franchise, Cold War. I mean, it’s not that bad, but the guns are so unbalanced that if you use anything other than a shotgun you are going to be at a severe disadvantage. Also, the maps are so boring to replay, there are no unique characters, and the overall gameplay isn’t that much fun. Also, the wonder weapons, (the super-powerful map specific guns), all kinda suck. This game also has the least amount of maps, and the reason this is is because of a mode called Outbreak, which is a sad excuse for a spin-off zombies mode. However, the perk system, weapon customization, and upgrading system is very unique, and fun to mess around with.

Okay, now onto the pretty solid games. Black Ops 1, and World at War. These were the first 2 zombies games, so they don’t have as good of graphics as the newer ones, but their gameplay is pretty solid. A lot of these maps were revolutionary, however the guns and mechanics aren’t that great compared to today’s standards. Although, I will say that the gameplay in these ones is very good, although sometimes it can be a bit buggy and laggy. The map variety was pretty good, it was pretty difficult, which is half of the fun in zombies, and the wonder weapons were all unique and fun to use. Also, both of these games have some fan favorite maps. Along with this, these games are actually pretty creepy, especially on the maps called Verruckt (World at War), and Kino Der Toten (Black Ops).

Finally, onto some extremely great games. Black Ops 2, and Black Ops 3 are the games that I would 100% recommend to anybody that would like to play these games. In Black Ops 2 alone, there are MULTIPLE fan favorite guns, wonder weapons, and iconic characters/maps. Also in BO2, there are some very beginner-friendly maps, like Buried, and Town, and there are also some very expert maps, like Mob of the Dead, and Origins. In both games the gameplay is smooth, the graphics are awesome, the difficulty is perfect, the perks are unique, and the guns/wonder weapons are very fun to use. BO3 also innovated A LOT, by introducing these things called gobblegums, which were gumballs that gave you overpowered abilities when eaten, by creating a system where you could upgrade your gun twice to make it insanely strong, and by making the movement system a lot more fluid. The only drawbacks to these games that I can think of are that in BO2, about half of the maps are trash, and in BO3, there is only 1 beginner friendly map. Overall, both of these games are INCREDIBLY fun, and depending on your preferences, you could like either one better than the other. I would give BO2 an 8/10 and recommend it to beginners, and would give BO3 a 9/10 and recommend it to experienced players.

Okay, so which one is for you? Well, I personally prefer Black Ops 3, but like I said, I would recommend Black Ops 2 for beginners, and Black Ops 3 for experienced players. I would also say that people that are more dedicated, or overall more familiar with first-person shooters should play Bo3. But it’s not my decision to make, so figure out which one is for you, and get playing!
