In May of 1999, a frantic fourteen year old girl went to the Hong Kong Police and told them she was being haunted by a ghost. The girl came into the police station without parents which made the police as weird. She was overlooked by them, and said her report was childish. I think that is so dumb that they over looked her case at first. The victim of the Hello Kitty murder was a young woman named Fan Man-Yee. She was twenty three years old when she died.
As a child Fan Man-Yee was abandoned by her parents and grew up in a girls orphanage until she was sixteen. Since the orphanage could no longer care for her Fan Man-Yee had to make it on her own. She joined the sex-work industry where drugs & crimes were a commonplace for her. She found work as a nightclub host in 1997 where she met Chan Man-Lok a man that would be the reason she died. He later became a regular at the club and they hit it off. Man-Yee became a part of Man-Lok’s crew that included others. She also began to work for him as a sex worker.
Fan Man-Yee saw Man-Lok’s wallet and stole 4,000 dollars from him for drugs & extra money. She was immediately caught by Man-Lok who demanded the money back plus interest. Man-Yee did return the money right away but pleaded for extra time for the extra 10,000 dollars. Unwilling to wait, Chan Man-Lok along with his henchmen kidnapped Fan Man-Yee and tortured her. All I have to say to that is, Was it worth it? She did go through gruesome & horrible violence that lasted 1 month before she died.
This is what she had to go through, They raped her, burned her feet so she couldn’t walk then they would put hot sauce on the burn wounds to make her feet hurt even more. They would also hang her from her feet on the ceiling when they where asleep or out doing something, she would only be let down when they where home, and they would abuse her even more.
The fourteen-year-old informed the police about the murder, “Ah Fong,” (a name given to her by the court for her protection) was the underage “girlfriend” of Chan Man-Lok. She also worked as a sex worker for him and admitted to participating in the torture against the Hello Kitty murder victim.
After telling what happened, the Hong Kong police gave the teenager immunity if she went against the men in court. She took the offer and where she is now is unknown.
Man-Yee’s body was almost unrecognizable. All the damage to the body made it difficult to see the cause of death. The men cut her body with a chainsaw and then boiled it to prevent it from decomposing. They then took her skull and put it in a Hello Kitty mermaid plush head. When police arrived to the apartment there was a rotting flesh smell and Hello Kitty dolls every where, they found a blue mermaid Hello Kitty doll on the ground in the bathroom, It was covered in blood, When they opened it they found Fan Man-Yee’s skull and some of her body parts in the doll. Experts were unable to know if Fan Man-Yee died of her injuries or if it was a suicide through methamphetamine (a drug). The court did say that the Chan Man-Lok, Leung Shing-Cho, and Leung Wai-Lun were guilty of the murder and were sentenced to life in jail for manslaughter with a possibility of parole in twenty years. That means that in twenty years they might be let out of prison.
