Lazy and sloppy games are made all the time, whether it be development issues, a money grab, in general bad developers and what not, but no one is so consistent at making lazy games than recent Game Freak. In this blog I will specifically go over the Pokémon games.

I will admit, the early Pokémon games are some of the best games I’ve ever played, but ever since around 2012-2013, the games have just been so bland and boring. Game Freak created a formula and routine for the Pokémon games that was a big hit for the first couple of years, so they kept using it. They take this like they have the secret sauce Krabby Patty formula, and just use it in everyone of their games.

If you were to ask me what the next 10 years of Game Freak games would be, I’d probably be able to give you an accurate answer. That’s mainly because almost every single one of their games are just copy and paste. I get that’s kind of the point of Pokémon, and that’s why people enjoy it, but I don’t think anyone likes playing the same game over and over again.

Even in the new games with the new generations of Pokémon, there are more variations of currently existing Pokémon than there are new and unique Pokémon. Although the actual graphical quality is better, it’s not like the older Pokémon games. The older games don’t hold your hand and kiss your bobos. I enjoyed the difficulty of the older games, which had NPCs that were notoriously hard. New Pokémon games seem to be made for small infants that can’t think straight.

I like that they are kind of branching out and trying new things with the new Pokémon Legends: Arceus, but that game is kind of iffy. The game is bland and boring. The “open world Pokémon” experience was not quite what I thought it would be. I think that since they’re so dead set and used to one format of games, they are bad at making other styles of games.

It’s not a good sign when game developers release a game every other year. That lets me know that they prefer quantity over quality. Maybe if they actually took their time and made a game that they truly thought would be enjoyable, I would respect Game Freak more.
