Having the first female aviator to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean is scary and it’s even scarier if she disappeared! This is what happened to Amelia Earhart. In the morning of July 2, 1937 Amelia Earhart took off from Lae, New Guinea. Her destination was to Howland Island which was located near the Central Pacific Ocean. But she never arrived on Howland Island. She and her navigator lost contact, when she was over the Pacific Ocean. During the official report at the time, the Navy explained that Earhart and Noonan had run out of fuel, crashed into the Pacific and drowned. A court order declared Earhart legally dead in January 1939, which was only 18 months after she disappeared. However, many people said it actually happened on July 2, 1937. There are many theories, and many millions of dollars have been spent searching for evidence that would reveal the truth. But, still nothing is known.
