13 years ago, the original Iron Man movie kicked off the Marvel Cinematic Universe. 5 years ago, the Doctor Strange movie was released. Both movies are incredible in their own ways, except that those ways are strange-ly similar. Get it? Haha, anyway, these two movies, while different in concept are actually very similar, and here’s why:
2008 – Iron Man
- Tony Stark was a rich, arrogant man who thought he was better than everyone else.
- Due to his own mistake (making bombs) he ended up brutally injured.
- He ended up having to work hard, and build a metal suit in order to return to his old life.
- Someone who walked the same path as him (Obadiah Stane) ended up trying to kill Tony in order to be more powerful.
- After Obadiah fails and dies, Tony officially becomes Iron Man, and devotes the rest of his life to saving people, and the Earth.
2016 – Doctor Strange
- Steven Strange was a rich, arrogant man who thought he was better than everyone else (see any similarities yet?).
- Due to his own mistake (getting in a car accident) he ended up brutally injured.
- He ended up having to work hard, and pursue the Mystic Arts in order to return to his old life.
- Someone who walked the same path as him (Kaecilius) ended up trying to kill Strange in order to be more powerful.
- After Kaecilius fails and dies, Strange officially becomes a sorcerer, and devotes the rest of his life to protect the time stone, and Earth itself.
Yeah, that’s right, Iron Man and Doctor Strange are basically the same movie. As listed above, they are both rich narcissists that got in an “accident” and ended up becoming superheroes to save themselves and others from villains that were similar to them. I noticed this the first time that I watched the original Iron Man, because I watched Doctor Strange first. I felt like I had already watched the movie before, and then I realized that it was similar to Doctor Strange. I think that it’s pretty cool, as the two characters are completely different in concept but their first appearances are awfully similar.
