Gun violence is the second leading cause of death in the United States among children and teens, and is the leading cause of death for high school students. 1.7 million children live with unlocked loaded guns 1 out of 3 homes with kids have guns. Between 2014 and 2018 more than 15,000 children died due to firearms, ages 19 and under. At least 13,000 sustained unintentional firearm injuries or death. Many youths are getting traumatized from these shootings that are happening. This can affect their mental health extremely, it can cause them to have, anxiety, PTSD, depression and many other things. This could cause them to not want to go to school and not feel safe which can also cause them not to focus in school.

Earlier this year policymakers proposed new restrictions on firearms in effort to lower the rising number of murders and mass shootings. Federal data shows that gun sales have risen that past years especially during the pandemic. The number rose 20% during the pandemic. Many people own guns because of personal safety and protection. In a survey roughly more than half favor in stricter gun laws in 2019, numerous of republicans say that there should be less restrictions. Gun violence can differ widely from race, ethnicity, and communities. But many can agree that gun violence is a very big problem.

In my opinion I think that there should be stricter gun laws, I feel the world would be a lot safer if there were stricter gun laws. But of course you should be able to protect yourself from harm but there are many different was that you could do that without causing any violence. Having better laws would be great because this would also mean that there would be less mass/school shootings. The world would be a better and safer place. What do you think about gun violence?
